Course Description:

Your dental practice is likely the largest financial asset you will ever own—yet most dentists are dangerously unprepared when it comes time to buy or sell. Poor planning, weak financial insight, and inadequate due diligence routinely lead to costly mistakes, undervalued practices, and lost wealth. This session will expose where dentists go wrong and provide the strategies needed to avoid financial missteps, protect your position, and ensure you don’t leave hundreds of thousands—or more—on the table.

Sana Arshad
CPA, MAcc

Before founding CFO of Smiles, Sana Arshad, CPA, MAcc, built a career rooted in growth, leadership, and precision. She started in audit, mastering accuracy and compliance, then moved into corporate accounting, managing financials for organizations exceeding $2B in Canadian sales. Rising from Junior to Senior Manager in just eight years, she led multiple finance teams and large-scale reporting operations.

Her leadership was built from the ground up—repeatedly hiring, training, and developing teams while fostering strong cultures with minimal turnover. These experiences shaped her belief that true leadership is about trust, clarity, and confidence—not hierarchy.

Sana entered dentistry through a start-up DSO, where she transitioned accounting in-house, cleaned up two years of financials, and built a finance department from scratch. It was here she found her passion for helping dentists gain clarity—not just in their numbers, but in their business direction.

With a Master’s in Accounting (Performance Management)—completed while on maternity leave—Sana brings a strategic, performance-driven approach to every client. Today, she works with dental practices across Canada, is featured in Oral Health Weekly Wisdom, speaks with Women in Digital Dentistry, and contributes to podcasts and panels on dental finance and leadership. She also mentors CPA students and teaches at Canadian post-secondary institutions, helping shape the next generation of professionals.

Course Description:

Dr. Vinay Bhide (Periodontist) will move beyond the curated "hero" slides to offer a raw deconstruction of a peri-implantitis case—inherited in a compromised state—that spiraled into a series of surgical setbacks. By examining these failures through a lens of honest self-reflection, the presentation identifies the specific moments where things went wrong and the critical interdisciplinary pivot that eventually salvaged the outcome. Clinical perfection is the gold standard, but the ability to navigate a crisis is what defines a great practitioner.

Dr. Vinay Bhide
D.D.S., M.Sc. (Perio)

Dr. Vinay Bhide is a board-certified Periodontist who provides the full scope of surgical periodontal and dental implant therapy. In addition to conventional periodontal procedures such as pocket reduction and crown lengthening, Dr. Bhide has a special interest in esthetic and reconstructive periodontics, procedures including soft tissue grafting for correction of gingival recession, periodontal regeneration, and pre-prosthetic site development procedures such as alveolar ridge augmentation, maxillary sinus floor augmentation (both direct and indirect), and guided bone regeneration (GBR).

Dr. Bhide earned his DDS from the University of Toronto in 2001, and subsequently completed a one-year internship at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. He completed his Master of Science and specialty training in periodontology at the University of Toronto in 2005.

Dr. Bhide is an Examiner and Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. Dr. Bhide is also a member of the International Team for Implantology (ITI). In addition to private practice, Dr. Bhide holds the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and is involved in didactic and clinical teaching of periodontics at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels. He has lectured nationally and internationally on various topics related to periodontology.

In his spare time, Dr. Bhide enjoys spending time with this family, running, playing tennis, and of course, reading anything!
